Project I: Climate of the Present
Group VII
Yarrow Goding
Moana McReynolds
Kana Takada
The area of the globe that our group focused on was the tropical
region of South America. We investigated the precipitation patterns
of different subregions of the continent, and examined them by comparison
to other areas of the earth with more familiar climate patterns, looking
for similarities and discrepancies.
Yarrow examined the part of the Andes mountain range that lies within the tropics. She researched whether the Andes had similar orographic precipitation patterns to mountain ranges outside the tropics.
Moana’s area of study was the seasonal precipitation patterns across the Amazon Basin and the Atlantic Coast of South America, and the sources of the weather systems over this area.
Kana investigated the seasonal precipitation by comparing it to those of tropical areas of Asia and Indonesia. She looked for similar patterns of rainfall in Brazil, Papua New Guinea, and Malaysia.
